Sugar Crave and the struggle of a diabetic patient

She was 65, when suddenly she was detected with diabetes. Always cheerful, a foodie and a great cook, my nani (maternal grandmother), got high blood pressure and diabetes, resulting to her admission into hospital.

Our family got scared of the entire scenario. It is said when bad time comes, it comes in a package. Doctors were unable to treat her because of her high blood sugar. But, all our prayers answered and after a week’s time, the doctors could succeed to bring her blood pressure under control.

Now it was the turn of treating diabetes. While she was given all bitter medicines and made dependent on drips, it was very hard for her to grab a bite of anything healthy. Most of the times, she used to vomit. But, the surprising factor was, only something sweet could appease her hunger pangs. My mom, out of affection passed my granny a few pieces of gulabjamun, which raised her sugar level overnight. Doctors scolded us for being irresponsible.

It is when I came to know about Kaloree1, an artificial sweetener that played the role of a real friend. She could have some desserts, adding Kaloree1.

Now living a happy life, she is enjoying every bite of her favorite foods.
